Day 16

Heyy!

So I decided on the song Ave Maria. I was trying to find the original one because I wouldn't need to worry about that whole "getting the permission to use it" thing but I couldn't find it.So I'm gonna have to use a cover. This gave me more freedom. I decided I'm gonna use a cover sung by a man because the song is typically sung by women so I wanted to go in a different way. This correlates to that contrast I want to create between my main character with the song as they are both men who believe in different things.

I already sent emails to 3 people who did covers that I liked and I am waiting for their response.

Day 16: Song.

As the song is in Latin and I didn't understand what it was saying, I decided to look up the translation because it's kind of important to know what the song says.

Okay so the quality is really bad, but that's the translation of the song to English.

I was thinking, in the part where it says "Ora pro nobis peccatoribus" which means "pray for us sinners" I thought I could put a shot of an LGBTQ+ flag because of the idea that homosexuality is wrong.
As that part is more towards the end of the song and I am not gonna use the whole of it because it's longer, I'll use it from after the 2nd "Ave Maria" so I get a little bit of instrumental before the singing starts.

Day 15

Heyyy

Day 15: I'm back.

So, let me explain why I haven't been posting for a while: I read that Cambridge tests were canceled and I thought that it included this part of the test so I just stopped posting. <- very erroneous choice.
But, now I'm back :)
I hope everyone has been doing great during the quarantine! It's not fun but it's so necessary that the fun part doesn't even matter anymore!!

Sooo for today what I am gonna do is tell you about some changes that I'll do to my intro.
As you know, for what I was going to do, I didn't require much. Still, I'm gonna take out my main actor (sorry Gonza) because we are all quarantined. Instead, my brother is going to act! I won't be showing much of him though but he has to be there.

So, here's my (very similar to the last one but longer because I realized I never finished the 1st one) new storyboard:

Summary: I'm gonna establish the character and his personality by showing his little special place: his art studio. Props and scenery will tell the audience a bit about this person (mostly his artistic lifestyle and some of the things that motivate him).

Important note:

Hey! I just noticed that I forgot to post my blogs for days 12 and 13 so I just jumped from 11 to 14 lol, I have them in drafts I'll post them right now but I'll change the date so it doesn't look weird.

I also forgot to post my schedule on day 14, I'll do that right now.

Day 14

Hey, how are ya?
To whoever is reading this: I’ve just been doing some thinking. And you know what I think, right now, what’s keeping me awake this Tuesday, March 17th at 04:11, that we should all say thanks more often. I just been thinking that sometimes we forget how lucky we are, how we take most of the little things for granted. That’s why I think we should say thanks to whoever we believe in. Thanks to life, for having life. For being able to breathe. For having a family, someone to rely on. For having a device, the one you’re reading this on. As human beings, we take a LOT of things for granted and I think that you and me both, we should take a moment now, and appreciate everything we have. Everything. Cause someday we might not be so lucky. So promise me that you’ll take a moment and really look around you, be thankful for what you have. :)

Day 14: Schedule

So... I noticed that I haven’t given you a schedule yet so I’m gonna update this blog tomorrow with that cause I wanna try to sleep now;)

Take into account that the current virus has changed my schedule because my parents are not allowing me to go out of the house as much.

Day 13: Where?

Hello! I just watched this movie called "The Danish Girl". I loved it!! Eddie Redmayne is such an awesome actor I never get tired of watching him perform! I really recommend this film. It's a true story about a transgender woman who experiences one of the first operations made to change sex.

Day 13: Location.

So for the location, I was hoping to film it in my mom's little art studio.

Here are some pictures:

Here's what I'm gonna do: put some sketches on the mirror, maybe a poster with a quote or something, to show Aaron's personality. Also, this would make it easier to shoot in front of a mirror as it will be mostly covered.
If this doesn't work I'll move the easel somewhere else and put the sketches and poster on the wall.

Day 12: Materials

Hey! Today I'm gonna make a list of everything I would need as in paint-related props for my intro:

Day 12: Materials.

Canvas: I looked at some options and found Michels' had the cheapest option for the size of the board that I wanted.

-Then I'm gonna use some normal papers like maybe even ruled paper and sketch paper, so I can add some sketches to the setting. -Those I have at home.

-My mom paints so I already have an easel at home.

Paint: To pick the paint I read this article which explained different paint types.

After reading this, I decided I'm going with either acrylic or oil paint.

To decide between the two, I watched this video which convinced me that I will be using acrylic because:

-Oil seems to be for more advanced painters, you need more time, and it is flammable.

-Acrylic dries faster, it is easier to clean. I only need water.

Brushes:
I'll be getting these brushes as they are the most affordable option I could find for acrylic paintbrushes.
-My mom has some brushes already but they are pretty used and old so I'll try to find some that aren't as damaged- if they are all damaged I'll buy some.

Colors: In the video above, a painter suggested to use a small quantity of colors, and to mix them. I like that idea. I'll be using the three primary colors. I'll also be using white and black.

I'm using this chart to understand more about colors, shades, etc.

Day 11

Good moringggg! How are you guys? I hope you're all staying safe from the COVID-19 virus going around :)

March 13th at 10:43: Day 11: something.

I literally don't know what to do this blog about. I'll come back when I have something to write about.

---------

Hello!

March 13th at 16:03: Day 11- part 2: the main character

Sooo as you may have guessed I now know what I will write about: my main character!

As I previously mentioned, the main character's name is gonna be Aaron.
And... he is gonna be played by... GONZALO PIROSANTO!!! (wohoooo!)

This ^ is the man!! Gonza has been my friend since last year, we met in our US History class.
Gonza is in the advanced musical theatre class at school, he wants to pursue acting. So I figured, who better to act in my film than someone who actually loves acting?

I also chose him because of his passion for this issue, passion for LGBTQ+ rights, just like Aaron, and me lol. So I figured, who better to act in my film than someone who actually cares about the message they're transmitting?

Day 10

Hello! I saw Mean Girls yesterday, once again, thank you BCPA, It was AMAZING!! I mean the amount of perfectness was unbelievable, the vocals, the acting, the dancing, the energy, the power... It was incredible!

Day 10: Music

So, my idea for music was to have music that contrasts with the painting. I don't know if I'd like it to be diagetic or non-diagetic sound yet.

I have to confess, I've been hiding something from you. This is because I didn't know if this was going to be controversial or not. But, recently, I asked my teacher and she said it wouldn't. Now that I'm sure it is not a problem I'll tell you the idea.

So, I don't know if you are aware of this, but one of the main problems against LGBT communities is religion.
Many strictly religious people say homosexuality, in between other things, is wrong.

So... my initial idea was to have this boy have a protest against the Church. But I avoided mentioning it because I thought people might think that I was assuming that being religious is wrong, or that all religious people think this way, which I know is false.

Having said that, these are my ideas for music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bosouX_d8Y&list=PL5EEE2A7A561A412F&index=1 : I like this one as people can tell it's religious, but I feel I want something that goes a little bit faster.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFrKmyzajak&list=PL5EEE2A7A561A412F&index=42 : I like this one because it is sung by children, at least in this video. I think that's interesting as my main character is a teenager, not an adult, so he is still a kid. It marks that difference between him and these other kids, which is what I want to focus on, contrast

I'll think about it and let you know! Bye!

Day 9- Storyboard

Hey! I am starting to realize that I have a LOT LESS time than I thought so I kinda need to start speeding things up a bit.

Day 9: Storyboard

This is the first draft of my storyboard!

It's only the first little part.

It's would be a lot of different close-ups showing the painting process. Until the last shot of this sequence which would be my main character looking at his finished product.

But then I decided I'd change it a little bit, add more close-ups of the painting before it is revealed.

Then I came up with another intro idea:

The problem with this one is it might be a little bit too montage-y... because... well because it is a montage :/

It would be a series of 4 shots showing some LGBTQ+ characters, cut by black screens. It would be fast paces and they would lead up to the shot of my mc painting. They would show why this boy is protesting.

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you... I know what the boy's name is gonna be! It's Aaron :)

Day 8- Character

Hello! I just wanted to say that today was a VERY EXCITING day as I attended a workshop in which the dance captain from Mean Girls the musical (<3) taught us a part of the choreography (which was very hard btw) and then we did a Q&A session!!! I even got a photo! I mean how cool is that!!!! Thank you Broward Center for the Performing Arts for this opportunity!

And, in regards to my project: Today I'm gonna think about who my character is going to be. What his motivations are; his family, his age, and more.

Day 8: The main character.

Name: TBD

Age: teenager, 18 (I have a friend who I want to play the mc)

Sexuality: bisexual

Family: Loving home, problematic attitude doesn't come from issues at home or anything. Two sisters, one older (supportive) one younger (like 5, doesn't understand). Mom is very supportive and gives great advice. No dad, but I won't mention what happened to him as being a single parent has to be normalized.

Motivation: Passion for the issue, passion for justice. Indignation for injustice.

Why art? He has always loved art and believes it is a very powerful medium among the people he is dealing with.

Day 7: meeting

Hellooo! So today I went to a meeting by the GSA club at my school!
We discussed LGBT rights throughout history and how we actually, although it is not yet done, made a lot of improvement.

Day 7: Meeting

We watched part of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjRv7dJTync

It was all very emotional.

In the end we "invented" some LGBT laws that could have been made in the past, they could be serious or not. This one boy said, "All the gays move to Canada." I thought it was very funny.

Day 6- Feedback!

Hey! Yesterday we had some group discussions in class and I got some feedback on my idea ;)

Day 6: Feedback.

My classmates suggested I start the film with a protest. I kind of not like that idea :/ I understand how it would make sense but I just feel its too normal! "Oh let's make a movie about this kid who protests and let's start it with a protest" It's too cliché in my opinion. I would rather start it by connecting the protest to the art, because there are LOTS of protests, but not lots of people who passive-aggressively protest through art.

One thing they said that I will apply is to establish his motives. Why is he protesting? Give a little bit more detail about his story, which will be hard in two minutes but it's possible.

------

Film: I was thinking that there can be another side to the story. Maybe the boy sells art to people who he knows are homophobes. He donates their money to LGBTQ+ organizations or something. So they are actually helping lol.

Day 5- (I think) I'VE GOT THIS

Hellooo! So, first of all, those two events in which I had to sing(exciting right?), they happened, so I'm back to my regular schedule.And... in other news, I know what my film is gonna be aboutttttt!!! Well, not exactly. See, I have an idea, but I am not sure of it yet, I'm gonna ask around to see what people think, but for now, this is what I have:

*As I had zero ideas, I asked my teacher for help and she suggested I base my film on some social issues that I cared for because those are the type of movies I love the most. So, this is based on LGBTQ+ issues.

------I don't have a title for it yet :/

------It would be a drama.

Day 5: Idea:
  • sparked from walking through Wynwood and seeing all of these beautiful walls, and I thought "art, art to express yourself and what you believe in." Plus, there was some really good and symbolic art and I thought "OMG this is so emotional. I like emotional."
It would be about this LGBTQ+ teenage boy who is on his own protest against homophobes, he protests through art. The climax would be maybe the main character starting this big project of painting something on a really big surface.
  • maybe he gets a group of people to help him on the way
  • maybe he doesn't get a group of people to help him on the way
  • maybe he makes a friend
  • maybe he makes an enemy
  • actually, for sure he makes an enemy
  • he uses all forms of art not only paintings
  • but mostly paintings
  Ideas for Opening:
  • It starts with the main character (mc), looking at art they created. Walks outside, raises art and leaves it there, exposing it to passengers, cars pass by, people pass by, until someone spits on them and says something around "disgusting" MC gives them an iconic comeback.
Image result for dude with sign
like this but with art
  • Poetry. MC starts the film with a monologue/poem, breaking the fourth wall, and explaining their story and feelings. I'd like the setting to be really plain, white, "perfect", uncomfortable, and mc's costume and appearance would be the opposite, very relaxed, extroverted, unique.

These are very rough ideas, I'll come back with more detail when I have it!Goodnight!

Day 30

Day 30: CCR. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tfVM6_rakKxn2QJRwaJ2S99O33TUaMNh Okay... it has all come to an end! Maybe I'l...
